Texas Appraisal Districts are now required by state law to verify a property owner’s homestead exemption eligibility, but this DOES NOT mean that Scurry CAD property owners must reapply for a homestead exemption every 5 years. SCAD has a vetting system that continually compares SCAD exemption records with local and national data sources and specifies any potentially unqualified exemptions for further investigation. Property owners with potentially unqualified exemptions will receive a notice and application by mail from our office with the steps needed to verify their eligibility.
